TV Roll Privacy Policy
Effective date: 23 July 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how HeyAye LTD ("HeyAye", "we", "us", or "our") handles information when you use TV Roll on iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV, including its iCloud sync, playlist sharing, App Intents, Apple Intelligence features, advertising, and related support.
TV Roll helps you save television shows, keep watched and skipped episode history, choose an episode, create playlists, and share playlists with other iCloud users. You do not need to create a TV Roll account.
Who We Are
HeyAye LTD is the data controller for the information that HeyAye determines how and why to process in connection with TV Roll.
Contact us about privacy at:
- Email: support@heyaye.ai
- Website: https://heyaye.ai
If you are unhappy with how we handle your personal data, please contact us first so we can try to resolve the matter. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at https://ico.org.uk.
Apple, Google, TV Maze, and any service you choose when sharing content may also act as separate controllers for information they process under their own terms.
Privacy at a Glance
- TV Roll does not require or provide a TV Roll account.
- Your saved shows, episode history, playlists, and preferences are stored on your device and, when iCloud is available, in your private iCloud storage.
- A playlist is shared through Apple's CloudKit only when you choose to share or join it.
- Search terms and catalogue requests are sent directly from the app to TV Maze so TV Roll can retrieve public television information.
- The current release uses Firebase Remote Config but does not include Firebase Analytics or collect HeyAye product-usage analytics.
- Free versions may show Google-served advertising. Google's advertising SDKs can collect advertising, device, product-interaction, coarse-location, performance, crash, and diagnostic information as described below.
- TV Roll's Apple Intelligence features use Apple's Foundation Models system service. TV Roll does not send this content to a HeyAye AI server or to a third-party AI provider selected by HeyAye.
- Apple processes App Store purchases. HeyAye does not receive your payment-card details.
- TV Roll does not sell your personal data.
Information TV Roll Handles
Saved Shows, History, Playlists, and Preferences
TV Roll stores a snapshot of the information needed to provide your library and planning features. Depending on how you use the app, this can include:
- saved shows and the last selected show;
- cached show and episode catalogue details and artwork links;
- watched episodes, skipped episodes, and shows marked Yet to Watch;
- season-selection preferences used by the episode picker;
- playlist names, descriptions, generated descriptions, episode lists, dates, and artwork links;
- playlist-sharing status, permissions, owner display information, and last-sync details;
- display preferences, launch destination, onboarding state, and sync timestamps.
The snapshot is stored locally on your device. If you are signed in to iCloud and iCloud is available to TV Roll, the app also stores the snapshot in Apple's iCloud key-value storage so it can stay in sync across your Apple devices.
This data is associated with your Apple iCloud account by Apple, not with a TV Roll account. HeyAye does not operate a server that receives a copy of your private TV Roll library.
Shared Playlists
When you choose to share a playlist, TV Roll uses Apple's CloudKit sharing service. The CloudKit record can include:
- the playlist name, description, generated description, and timestamps;
- the selected shows and episodes, including names, summaries, air dates, runtimes, and artwork links;
- a generated playlist thumbnail;
- share identifiers, owner information made available by Apple, participant information, participant count, and read-only or read-write permissions.
The owner controls whom they invite and whether participants can edit the playlist. People who receive access can see the shared playlist content and, where permitted, change it. Their changes are visible to other participants. Apple processes the iCloud account, invitation, participant, and CloudKit data needed to provide this feature.
TV Roll may register for Apple Push Notification service so the operating system can notify the app about CloudKit share invitations or changes. TV Roll does not send your push token to a HeyAye notification server.
Do not put private or sensitive information in playlist names or descriptions if you plan to share them.
Television Search and Catalogue Requests
TV Roll obtains public television listings, show details, episode details, schedules, cast information, and artwork links from the TV Maze API.
When you search or open catalogue content, the app sends TV Maze the search words or catalogue identifiers needed for the request. TV Maze and its network providers will also receive ordinary network information such as your IP address, request time, and device or connection details. Artwork can be loaded from image hosts identified in TV Maze responses, which may receive similar network information.
TV Roll uses this information only to return the catalogue content you requested, cache responses for performance, and populate the library or playlist features you choose to use. HeyAye does not receive your TV Maze search terms.
TV data is provided by TV Maze (TVmaze) under its applicable API licence. TV Roll is not affiliated with or endorsed by TV Maze. See the TVmaze API terms and TVmaze privacy policy.
Firebase Remote Config
TV Roll uses Firebase Remote Config to retrieve feature-availability and rollout settings. It sends only app-level runtime signals chosen by TV Roll, currently the app environment and platform.
Firebase also processes technical information needed to operate Remote Config. Google's current documentation states that Remote Config uses a Firebase installation identifier to select configuration values. The embedded Remote Config privacy manifest also declares non-linked diagnostic information for analytics purposes.
TV Roll does not use Firebase Authentication, Firestore, Firebase Crashlytics, or Firebase Analytics in the current release. Dormant analytics call sites in the app are no-ops and do not send TV Roll screen views, search text, saved-show activity, playlist activity, Apple Intelligence prompts or output, or purchase events to Firebase Analytics.
See Firebase privacy and security for more information.
Advertising, Consent, and Tracking
TV Roll may show ads to free users:
- the iPhone and iPad app uses Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) and Google's User Messaging Platform;
- the Apple TV app may use Google Interactive Media Ads for video advertising;
- users with a verified Ad-Free purchase do not receive TV Roll advertising.
Google's User Messaging Platform checks whether a privacy message or privacy-options entry point is required for your region. TV Roll asks the SDK for updated consent information before requesting iPhone or iPad ads and does not start those ads until the SDK reports that ads may be requested.
Depending on your region, consent choice, device settings, ad availability, and the Google advertising service in use, Google and participating advertising partners may process:
- device or other identifiers, including an advertising identifier where you allow tracking;
- app name, app version, operating system, device model, language, and similar device information;
- IP address and coarse location derived from network information;
- ads requested, shown, viewed, or selected, and other product-interaction or advertising data;
- consent choices and privacy-message interactions;
- performance, crash, and other diagnostic information;
- information used for ad delivery, frequency limiting, measurement, reporting, security, and fraud or abuse prevention.
The embedded Google Mobile Ads and Google Interactive Media Ads privacy manifests declare device identifiers used for tracking in some circumstances. iOS requires your permission before an app can access the advertising identifier for tracking. If you do not allow tracking or do not consent to personalised advertising, Google may still process limited information to deliver non-personalised, limited, or technical ads, measure delivery, and prevent fraud.
You can revisit advertising privacy choices from TV Roll's Settings when Google's SDK requires that control. You can also change tracking permission in iOS or iPadOS Settings. Google's use of information is explained in How Google uses information from apps that use its services and the Google Privacy Policy.
Buying Ad-Free stops TV Roll from requesting or displaying ads for the verified purchaser. It does not delete information that Google or another provider previously processed under its own retention rules.
Purchases
The Ad-Free purchase is offered through Apple's StoreKit and App Store services. Apple processes your Apple Account, payment method, billing, purchase history, tax, and related transaction information under Apple's terms.
TV Roll receives StoreKit product information and verified transaction or entitlement status so it can offer, restore, and honour Ad-Free access. This may include the product identifier, transaction status, purchase date, revocation status, and App Store environment. TV Roll stores only the local state needed to remember that ads should be removed. HeyAye does not receive or store your payment-card number.
See Apple's Privacy Policy for information about Apple's processing.
Apple Intelligence and Smart Features
On supported devices, TV Roll can use Apple's Foundation Models framework to help create episode suggestions, playlist ideas, playlist names or descriptions, and explanations grounded in TV Roll data.
The input can include the direction you enter, selected shows or episodes, playlist content, watched or skipped history, genres, summaries, ratings, and other catalogue context needed for the feature. The generated result is returned to TV Roll and may be saved locally or in iCloud as part of a playlist if you choose to keep it.
TV Roll uses Apple's system model and does not send these inputs or results to HeyAye, OpenAI, or another external AI provider selected by HeyAye. Apple describes Foundation Models as using the Apple Intelligence system model, normally on-device; where an Apple operating-system feature uses Private Cloud Compute, Apple's privacy terms govern that processing. Availability and processing can depend on your device, operating-system version, language, region, and Apple Intelligence settings.
See Apple Intelligence & Privacy for more information.
Siri, App Intents, and Spotlight
TV Roll provides App Intents and indexes saved show and episode metadata with Apple's Core Spotlight and App Entity systems so you can find content in system search or use supported Siri and Shortcuts actions.
The indexed data can include show or episode names, catalogue identifiers, summaries, genres, artwork links, and whether the item is saved in TV Roll. This index is managed on your device by Apple's operating system. Siri, Shortcuts, Spotlight, and Apple Intelligence may process your requests under Apple's privacy terms and your system settings.
Removing a show from TV Roll updates the related index. Removing all saved shows causes TV Roll to remove its searchable items.
Notifications
If you enable notifications, TV Roll may show a local system notification when an in-app task, such as preparing For You picks, finishes while the app is in the background. The title, message, and route are created on your device and scheduled through Apple's local notification system.
CloudKit may separately use remote notifications to tell the app that shared data changed. TV Roll does not operate a marketing-push service and does not send notification content or device tokens to a HeyAye backend.
You can change notification permission at any time in iOS or iPadOS Settings.
Links and Content You Choose to Share
TV Roll can create recommendation links containing a public TV Maze show identifier and, for an episode link, an episode identifier. When you use Apple's share sheet, the link is sent to the person or service you select. That recipient or service processes the information under its own terms.
Opening a TV Roll link can disclose ordinary network information to the website and network providers involved in resolving the link. The recommendation URL itself does not contain your name, TV Roll library, watched history, or playlist.
CloudKit playlist sharing is different from recommendation-link sharing and is described in the Shared Playlists section above.
Support Communications
If you email us for support or privacy help, we receive the information you choose to send, such as your email address, message, attachments, and troubleshooting details. Please do not send passwords, payment-card details, or other unnecessary sensitive information.
We use support information to reply, investigate the issue, protect the app, and keep an appropriate record of the request.
Information TV Roll Does Not Request
TV Roll does not ask for a TV Roll username or password and does not request access to your precise location, contacts, photos, camera, or microphone.
Google advertising services can still infer coarse location from network information as explained above. Apple system services you choose to use may also process information under your device settings and Apple's terms.
How We Use Information
We use information within our control to:
- provide your saved-show library, episode picker, watch history, playlists, and preferences;
- sync your data between devices through iCloud;
- create, accept, update, and revoke shared playlists through CloudKit;
- retrieve and cache the television information you request;
- deliver smart features, App Intents, Spotlight results, and local notifications;
- offer, restore, and honour Ad-Free purchases;
- show, measure, and secure advertising where enabled and permitted;
- retrieve feature configuration, maintain reliability, investigate support requests, and prevent abuse;
- comply with applicable law and enforce our legal rights.
We do not use your private library, watch history, playlist content, search text, or Apple Intelligence content to build a HeyAye advertising profile.
Our Legal Bases
Where UK data protection law applies, we rely on:
- Contract: to provide the TV Roll features you request, including library storage, catalogue lookup, iCloud sync, playlist sharing, and purchase restoration.
- Consent: for notifications, App Tracking Transparency, personalised advertising, and other advertising choices where consent is legally required. You can withdraw consent through TV Roll's privacy options or Apple device settings, as applicable.
- Legitimate interests: to operate, secure, debug, improve, and support TV Roll; retrieve feature configuration; provide non-personalised or limited advertising where permitted; prevent fraud; and protect our legal rights, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights.
- Legal obligation: where processing or disclosure is necessary to comply with applicable law, regulation, tax obligations, or an enforceable legal request.
Apple, Google, TV Maze, and other independent providers determine their own legal bases for processing under their privacy notices.
When Information Is Shared
We share or make information available only as described in this policy:
- Apple: for iCloud key-value sync, CloudKit playlist sharing, App Store purchases, Apple Push Notification service, StoreKit, Foundation Models, Siri, Shortcuts, Spotlight, and other operating-system services you use.
- Google: for Firebase Remote Config and, where advertising is enabled, consent management, ad delivery, measurement, diagnostics, security, and fraud prevention.
- TV Maze and image hosts: for the television searches, catalogue records, schedules, and artwork you request.
- People you invite: for any CloudKit playlist you choose to share, according to the permission you set.
- Services or recipients you choose: when you share a recommendation link or other content.
- Professional advisers, authorities, or a successor organisation: where reasonably necessary to obtain advice, comply with law, protect rights and safety, investigate abuse, or complete a corporate reorganisation subject to appropriate safeguards.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your private TV Roll library with data brokers.
International Processing
Apple, Google, TV Maze, and their service providers may process information outside the United Kingdom, including in countries with different data-protection laws. Where HeyAye is responsible for an international transfer, we use an applicable lawful transfer mechanism and appropriate safeguards. Independent providers describe their own transfer arrangements in their privacy notices.
Retention and Deletion
- Local TV Roll data remains on your device until you edit it, remove it, reset relevant app data, or delete the app. Deleting the app does not necessarily delete data already stored in iCloud.
- Private iCloud sync data remains subject to your Apple iCloud account and Apple's retention rules. You can remove items in TV Roll and manage app data or iCloud through Apple device and account settings.
- Shared playlist records remain in CloudKit until the owner stops sharing or deletes the relevant shared content, subject to Apple's retention and backup rules. A participant can leave a share. Other participants may retain information they received or copied.
- StoreKit purchase records are retained by Apple under Apple's legal, tax, and account requirements. TV Roll may continue to recognise an active or restored Ad-Free entitlement.
- Firebase Remote Config installation and diagnostic data, Google advertising data, and TV Maze request data are retained by those providers under their policies and controls.
- Support communications are kept only as long as reasonably needed to handle the request, maintain security and business records, resolve disputes, and meet legal obligations.
Because HeyAye does not hold a server-side copy of your private iCloud library, we usually cannot view or delete that data for you.
Your Choices and Rights
Depending on where you live and the processing involved, you may have rights to:
- receive information about processing and request access to your personal data;
- correct inaccurate personal data;
- request deletion or restriction;
- object to processing based on legitimate interests;
- withdraw consent without affecting earlier lawful processing;
- receive certain data in a portable format;
- complain to a data-protection authority.
You can also:
- edit or remove saved shows, history, and playlists in TV Roll;
- stop sharing, change participant permissions, or leave a shared playlist using Apple's sharing controls exposed by TV Roll;
- manage iCloud and delete applicable app data in Apple settings;
- turn notifications off in system settings;
- change iOS or iPadOS tracking permission in Privacy & Security settings;
- reopen Google's advertising privacy options in TV Roll where that control is required;
- buy or restore Ad-Free to stop TV Roll ads;
- control Siri, Spotlight, Shortcuts, Apple Intelligence, and Apple device analytics in Apple settings.
To exercise a right relating to information controlled by HeyAye, email support@heyaye.ai. We may need enough information to understand and verify the request. We cannot access private iCloud content merely to identify you, and we may direct you to Apple, Google, TV Maze, or another provider for data that provider controls.
Security
TV Roll uses Apple's app sandbox and platform services, HTTPS network requests, private iCloud storage, and CloudKit permissions to reduce unnecessary exposure. Firebase encrypts Remote Config data in transit, and Apple and Google apply their own service security controls.
No system is completely secure. Protect your Apple Account and device passcode, review playlist participants before sharing, and avoid placing sensitive information in content you intend to share.
Children
TV Roll is a general-audience entertainment app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly ask children to create an account or submit personal information to HeyAye. Advertising providers may apply age, account, region, and consent restrictions under their own systems.
If you believe a child has sent personal information directly to HeyAye, contact support@heyaye.ai so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy when TV Roll's features, providers, or legal requirements change. We will update the effective date when we make a material change. Before enabling materially different collection, such as HeyAye product-usage analytics or an external AI provider, we will update this policy and any required App Store privacy information.
